Description

20" (51 cm). Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque-headed doll with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes, brush stroked brows with feathered detail, accented nostrils, closed mouth with shaded lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton moule torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. When wound, the doll turns head from side to side, nods, offers tea tray and then "pours" a cup of tea, music plays. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 4 (head). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890, the automaton appeared in the firm's catalog named "Bebe Russe", a popular theme at that time caused by the celebrated visit to Paris of the Russian Tsar and his family. Value Points: Beautiful and well preserved automaton with lavishly preserved original traditional Russian silk costume lavishly trimmed, superb "jeweled" headdress.
