Description
11" (28 cm). A paper mache container in the shape of a pastry brioche contains within a small bisque headed doll with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes, brush stroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, bisque hands. When wound, music plays, the brioche "lid" raises and the bisque doll slowly rises, holding a tiny brioche in her hand. The doll nibbles on the brioche, turning her head from side to side. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Roullet et Decamps, with Jumeau bisque head, circa 1895, the exact piece is shown in "Golden Age of Automata" by Christian Bailly, page 128. Value Points: amusing and rare automaton is perfectly preserved, functions well.
