Description
18" (46 cm). Pressed bisque socket-head with
rounded facial modeling, plump cheeks, pale blue
glass enamel inset eyes with spiral threading and
darker blue outer rims, dark eyeliner encircles
the eyecuts, painted lashes, delicately fringed
brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, pointy
nose tip, closed mouth with shaded and accented
lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over
pink plaster pate, French composition and wooden
eight-loose-ball-jointed body with flat-cut
derriere, straight wrists, costume included.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Bte SGDG 3
(head) 3 (incised on pate) 3 (paper label inside
wig) Sch (shield mark on derriere). Comments:
Schmitt et Fils, an early model, circa 1880, the
brevete mark in reference to their registered
body style. Value Points: an exceptional and
wonderfully preserved early signed bebe, with
gorgeous pale bisque, original signed wig, pate,
body, body finish, having original boutique
label "Au Bonheur des Enfants, Chaufour, Paris"
on torso indicating its original presentation.
