Description
24" (61 cm). Bisque socket-head, brown glass
paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner encircles
the eyecut, lushly painted lashes, brushstroked
and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded
nostrils, open mouth, shaded and accented lips,
row of porcelain upper teeth, pierced ears,
blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French
composition and wooden fully-jointed body,
phonograph mechanism in torso that operates from
key-wind at back torso. Condition: generally
excellent, mechanism functions typically, some
paint flake on lower limbs. Marks: Bebe Jumeau
Diplome d¡honneur Brevete SGDG (torso) H.L.
Marque Depose 512 (stamp on mechanism). Comments:
Emile Jumeau, in conjunction with Henri Lioret,
Bebe Phonographe, circa 1893. Cylinders with
musical tunes and rhymes were created exclusively
for the singing doll. Value Points: rare doll
with perfectly intact mechanism, included are
three recordings: Mulberry Bush, Little Jack
Horner, and Le Coq; the bebe wears antique maroon
silk faille dress and matching bonnet.
