Description

18" (46 cm). Pale bisque shoulder head portraying adult lady with oval-shaped faces, elongated throat and flat-cut pate at top of head. The doll has identical faces on front and back of head, each with cobalt blue glass enamel inset eyes, delicately painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils of aquiline shaped nose, closed mouth with smiling expression, accented lips, wheat blonde mohair wig, kid gusset-jointed fashion body, rose lace costume. Condition: generally excellent, few body patches. Comments: maker unknown, circa 1865, the identical double-faces suggest the doll's custom production for Exhibition or as display poupee with multiple visibility. Value Points: very rare doll is enhanced by beautiful model of face and fine quality of bisque.
