Description
13" (33 cm). Solid domed bisque socket-head with
slender face and angular features, brown glass
inset eyes, black eyeliner, painted lower lashes,
modeled thick brows with feathered detail,
aquiline nose, closed mouth, thickly sculpted
moustache below impressed cheek bones, brunette
mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed
body, well costumed in gentleman's suit and
tophat. Condition: generally excellent. Marks:
(Holz-masse stamp on torso). Comments: attributed
to Cuno and Otto Dressel, by Simon and Halbig,
portrait model of the young Teddy Roosevelt from
the series of historical dolls issued by that
firm in 1893 representing American heroes of the
Spanish American War. Value Points: extremely
rare, previously undocumented portrait doll of
the American hero with superb detail of sculpting
including characteristic Teddy Roosevelt
moustache.
