28" (71 cm). The loosely limbed dancing toy features a paper mache head with sculpted and painted facial features, paper mache large court hat with curved shape, flat-dimensional wooden body with jointing at shoulders, hips and knees. Marks: Hebert (pencil inscribed on reverse). Condition: very good, original finish with some typical paint rub on face. Comments: French, early 19th century, the joints of the string toy are joined at the back, and when uniting string is pulled, he dances about. The pantin was one of the earliest European toys, produced in both France and Germany, and whose popularity continued for centuries. Value Points: rare large model with original colorfully painting costume design.
