Description
20" (51 cm). Pressed bisque socket head with
perfectly oval facial modeling, almond shaped
cornflower blue glass enamel inset eyes with
spiral threading, dark eyeliner encircles the eye
sockets, mauve blushed eyeshadow, softly
feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded
nostrils of distinctively shaped pointy upturned
nose, closed mouth with outlined shaded lips,
pierced ears, brunette human hair over cork pate,
French composition and wooden eight loose-ball-
jointed body with straight wrists. Condition:
generally excellent, body finish original albeit
scuffed. Marks: 3. Comments: Circa 1877, one of
the earliest model bebes, the maker is uncertain
but likely Jumeau or Schmitt et Fils. Value
Points: exquisite early bebe with compelling
expression, unusually fine quality of bisque for
this early period bebe enhanced by most subtle
blushing of eyelids, ear lobes and chin, antique
blue silk dress with lace trim, lace bonnet,
undergarments, shoes and stockings.
