15"H (38 cm) piano. A bisque-headed lady with blue glass inset eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, paper mache torso and lower legs, wire upper legs and arms, metal hands, elegant costume, is seated upon an ebony wooden stool in front of a wooden upright piano. When wound, music plays, she turns her head from side to side, and her fingers delicately play over the keys. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 4 (doll). Comments: attributed to Leopold Lambert, circa 1880, a model with standing bebe but nearly identical piano is shown as #14 of Dolls in Motion. Value Points: the luxury automaton plays four different tunes, is fitted with an exquisite miniature piano of ebony and rosewood, fitted with bone keys and ormulu candle holders and handles. Mechanism and music function well.
