Description
15"H (38 cm) piano. A bisque-headed lady with
blue glass inset eyes, closed mouth, blonde
mohair wig over cork pate, paper mache torso and
lower legs, wire upper legs and arms, metal
hands, elegant costume, is seated upon an ebony
wooden stool in front of a wooden upright piano.
When wound, music plays, she turns her head from
side to side, and her fingers delicately play
over the keys. Condition: generally excellent.
Marks: 4 (doll). Comments: attributed to Leopold
Lambert, circa 1880, a model with standing bebe
but nearly identical piano is shown as #14 of
Dolls in Motion. Value Points: the luxury
automaton plays four different tunes, is fitted
with an exquisite miniature piano of ebony and
rosewood, fitted with bone keys and ormulu candle
holders and handles. Mechanism and music function
well.
