20" (51 cm). Bisque socket head, brown glass
paperweight inset eyes with spiral threading,
dark eyeliner, lushly painted lashes, widely
arched brushstroked and feathered brows, accented
nostrils, closed mouth with modeled space between
the shaded and accented lips, pierced ears,
auburn mohair wig over cork pate, French
composition and wooden fully jointed body with
hinged metal hip joints under original leather
cover. Condition: generally excellent. Marks:
L'Intrepide Bebe R.D. Bte SGDG. Comments: the
bebe was commissioned from Jumeau by Roullet et
Decamps in 1892, having uniquely marked head, and
patented "walking" system allowing the dolls to
easily walk when guided by a child. Value Points:
rare model with original signed L'Intrepide head
and original body and body finish, original wig
that exactly matches the eyes, beautiful original
costume of peach cashmere wool dress over multi-
layered undergarments, lace-edged bonnet,
original leather shoes.
