Description
20" (51 cm). Cinnamon-colored mohair teddy bear
with excelsior filling has swivel head, long
snout nose with brown embroidered nose tip and
mouth, black shoe-button eyes, jointed long arms,
side-hip jointed legs, felt paws, humped back.
Condition: generally excellent, one small black
spot on foot paw. Marks: Steiff (original button
in ear with block letters). Comments: Steiff,
circa 1910. Being sold from the family of the
original owner, Easter Ellen Cupp, born on Easter
day March 30, 1904; she was the first woman in
North America to receive a doctorate in
oceanography in 1934. The bear was purchased from
Marshall Fields in Chicago and presented to
Easter when she was five years old. Value Points:
rare early model in wonderful condition, with
provenance.
