Description
18" x 10" (46 x 25 cm) box. A heavy cardboard box
is decorated with lithographed paper cover and an
exquisite engraving portraying Polichinelle and
Pierrot carrying a box labeled "Recompense",
leading a parade of frolicking children. The box
opens to reveal a well-fitted interior centered
by a lottery wheel and having shelved
arrangements with a myriad of toys that could be
won: tiny wooden toys and soldiers, metal
carriage and push toys, bisque dolls, bisque
figurines, porcelain washbowl, paper mache
animals, and more. Excellent condition. French,
circa 1860, of fine luxury quality.
