Description
9" (23 cm). A paper mache doll with solid domed
head, black painted pate, tiny black glass enamel
inset eyes, painted lashes, open mouth with tiny
square-cut teeth, paper mache body with kid arms,
is standing upon a three-wheeled tinplate base.
When wound, the doll moves forward and in
circles, vigorously moving its head and arms.
Condition: generally excellent. Comments:
attributed to Theroude, circa 1850. Value Points:
early paper mache mechanical baby wears original
costume including woven straw bourrelet for young
child to protect its head when learning to walk.
