Description
39" (99 cm). including cap. Felt swivel head with
four-seamed face, black shoe-button eyes, shaped
facial features, painted clown-decorated brows,
accented nostrils, closed mouth with shaded lips,
stitched-ears, blonde mohair fleecy wig, muslin
body with jointing at shoulders and hips, felt
oversized hands with separate thumbs, felt
oversized feet with sewn-on brown ankle boots and
pom-poms, costumed in original red, green and
yellow felt clown suit with pom-pom trim.
Condition: generally excellent, fine original
felt and colors are beautifully preserved. Marks:
Steiff (button in ear). Comments: Steiff,
according to book, Button in Ear, by Cieslik, the
clown was produced in 7 sizes ranging from 11"-
39" from 1905-1928 only, this being the largest
size. Value Points: extremely rare early Steiff
cloth clown doll with wonderful presence,
original button, beautifully preserved
throughout.
