Description
13" (33 cm). Bisque socket head with highly
characterized facial features, brown glass eyes
in deeply sunk eye sockets, gaunt eye hollows,
tinted brows, umber eye shadow at outside eye
corners, accented nostrils, closed mouth with
thin extended lip line between small lips,
original auburn mohair wig, five piece paper
mache body with side hip jointing. Condition:
generally excellent. Marks: SFBJ 239 Paris
(incised block letters) Poulbot (incised
signature). Comments: Rintintin, so-named by the
famous French artist, Poulbot, who designed the
doll to symbolize starving Montmartre urchins of
the WWI era, circa 1916. Value Points: very rare
doll with artistically rendered and unique
characterization, fine quality of painting and
bisque, original body and original costume.
