Description
The heavy black cast iron stove has unusual
smoothed finish with incised decorations on
nickel-plated stove fronts and base. There are
six burners, large reservoir mounted onto the
side with hinged lid, large oven with name "Royal
Esther" on door, two grate doors, internal grate
with detachable side walls, large hearth with
makers plaque "Mt. Penn Stove Works". There is
an elaborate chimney cover with embossed design
and cutwork brackets, warming shelf and
ornamental railing with heart-shaped design. This
was the deluxe model of the firms Royal Esther
Jr. stove being complete with pipe shelf and
reservoir at a cost of $3.50 in 1890; the stove
was advertised as "complete is all its
appointments as a regular cooking stove".
