Description
The heavy cast iron stove is entirely
nickel-plated (somewhat worn), with an
extraordinary degree of embellishment that
even extends around the back side, six stove
burners, five burner lids with incised
decorations, reservoir lid to match, fretwork
warming shelf, chimney cover with
mythologically themed brackets, warming
cupboard with double sliding doors,
crown-shaped crest. The oven door has
sculpted inset pattern lettered "Rival", similar
decorations are found on other oven doors
and sides, opening side grate door,
detachable side hearth with removable cover,
very ornate base centered by large silvered
medallion inscribed "S". Included are ash
shaker, lifter and very ornate kettle that fits
exactly into burner hole. Marked "Patented July
30, 1895" on back. American, circa 1895, J&E
