Description
The heavy cast iron stove "made in every detail
just like full sized stoves" according to the
company advertising, features a four burner
stove top, front grate with interior grill and
removable hearth plate on large hearth. There
are oven doors at either side of the fancily
footed stove. On one door is an extravagant
symbol of the Charter Oak leaf, while the other
door is grillwork (described by the company
as "wire gauze oven door") with imposed leaf
motif. The stove is labeled in several places,
viz. "Charter Oak", "Filley's Pat. Hot Air Flue,
Pat. Extended June 14, 1867", "Patented
1883", and "No.103." Each part is incised 103.
(One lid is missing). Model 103 was listed in
their catalog as weighing 58 lbs, and its
selling price in an 1890 era catalog was
$8.00. American, circa 1885, G.F. Filley,
Excelsior Stove Works (later Charter Oak
Stoves). 14"H. 12"W. 20"D.
