uniquely S-shaped base of throat that pivots on
matching-shaped bisque shoulder plate according
to a system patented by Joliet. The doll has a
perfectly oval face with very full cheeks and
throat, high domed forehead, almond shaped cobalt
blue glass enamel inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner
encircling the eye sockets, heavily lidded eyes,
painted lashes, feathered brows, aquiline nose
with shaded nostrils, closed mouth with outlined
lips, impressed philtrum and lip corners,
unpierced nicely shaped ears, blonde mohair wig
over cork pate, kid fashion body with shapely
torso, gusset jointing at hips, knees and elbows,
stitched and separated fingers and toes. The doll
wears a fine muslin gown of patterned mauve
flowers and leaves, sous-sleeves, undergarments,
leather shoes, early straw bonnet. Marked _10_ on
shoulder plate. Circa 1867, from the original
patent filed by Nicolas Joliet. His patent
concerned a particular type of neck articulation
requiring the slanted, slightly curved bisque
neck cut that exactly fit the corresponding
shoulder plate.
