Description

17" (43 cm). Having pressed bisque swivel head with slender oval facial modeling and flat-cut neck socket attached to original bisque shoulder plate in a unique system allowing 360 degrees articulation. The face has portrait-like painted features enhanced by sculpted detail. The dark painted eyes are in deeply impressed sockets with heavy eyelids, thick painted upper liner, delicately painted lashes, arched feathered brows and mauve blushed eyeshadow, The lady has an elegant aquiline nose with accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with a hint of gentle smile, accented lips, unpierced blushed ears with excellent detail of sculpting. She has her original white/blonde mohair wig with cascading curls and wears an early muslin gown with lace and silk trim over her French kid gusset-jointed body with stitched and separated fingers. Circa 1867, the doll is believed to have been made as part of a series for the 1867 Exposition Universelle in Paris; only six other examples are known to exist including one in the Galea Museum of Monaco, and one presented in the book A Fully Perfected Grace.
