Description
16" (40 cm). Having pale bisque shoulderhead with square-shaped face above an elongated throat, black sculpted hair waved away from face into deeply rolled curls with garlands of black beads, and into a braided cluster at the back of head, the hair enhanced by stippling detail around the forehead and glazed highlights overall. The lady has painted blue eyes with red and black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, aquiline nose, closed mouth with primly shaped lips. Her body is a French kid fashion type with shapely waist and gusset jointing at hips, and her hands have sewn-on kid-gloved hands with overcast glove details. The doll wears an early white pique gown with fitted bodice, pleated skirt and hemline, and puffed sleeves, undergarments and leather slippers. The body is reinforced at the wrists. Germany, probably for the French market, circa 1865.
