Description
Of ivory silk faille with horizontal ribbing, the
gown features a rounded neckline with very short
set-in sleevelets. The bodice is snugly fitted,
muslin lined, and has three hook and loop
closures at the back. There is a hidden set-in
waistband and wide double box pleats that extend
around the fully-lined skirt. The neckline and
sleevelets are trimmed with red velvet banding
edged by an elaborate handmade border of silk
thread loops and glass beads. Six oval medallions
of red velvet edged by silk thread loops and
black glass beads are arranged around the
hemline. There is a red velvet detachable belt
with box-pleated and velvet/bead edged bustle to
decorate the back of the gown. Circa 1860.
Unsigned, but definitely couturier made, probably
for Huret poupee. Appropriately sized for 16_17"
poupee. There is some water stain on the skirt.
