Description
An unusual design features three pieces. There is
a skirt with green silk pleated lower half and
upper half of stiffened muslin, designed to fit
snugly under the black silk taffeta over-gown.
The second piece is a matching green silk jacket
with coat-sleeves, snugly fitted bodice and tiny
inset gore at the back center waist. The jacket
cuffs and placket are trimmed with tiny black
glass beads. The third piece is a black silk
taffeta sleeveless over-gown with rounded
neckline and ten-panel flared skirt with diamond-
point hemline that extends 3/4 length allowing
the green silk pleats to show. The over-gown is
trimmed with black glass beads and 1/2" glass
teardrops around the neckline, sleeves and hem.
Circa 1860. Unsigned, but definitely couturier
made. Appropriately sized for 16"_17" poupee.
There is one small silk weaving rent at the
jacket back.
