Description
Of crisp natural linen the tablier has six
inverted pleats gathered at the center waist by a
stitched-down band from which two long ties
extend. The rounded neckline is trimmed with a V-
shaped collar at front and back. There are two V-
shaped faux pockets. The back is open excepting
two small pearl buttons at the collar with thread
loop closures. Superbly executed red soutache
trim heightens the collar, sash, pocket flaps and
entire hemline and back openings. The quality of
the stitching is so tiny and immaculate as to be
virtually invisible, and all interior seams are
finished. Along with a white cotton chemisette
with lace edged collar and cuffs, vertical tucks
at front and back and silk covered button
closure. And with a woven cotton snood decorated
with red ribbon. The costume is appropriate for
14"_15" plump-bodied poupee of the 1860 era.
Circa 1860.
