17"(43 cm). The lady doll has bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, large brown glass enamel inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with richly accented lips, and pierced ears. Her body is kid fashion with shapely torso and gusset- jointing at hips, knees and elbows, with stitched and separated fingers. The doll wears a superb original and authentic nun's habit, comprising multiple layers of gown, undergarments, cape, hood, and coiffe; the undergarments include plain white corset with three snaps, chemise with drawstring, inside coin pockets of blue and white ticking with one embroidered in red, short half slip of blue and white ticking, long half slip of black and gray ticking. The doll has two crosses and a rosary and wears black mittens and carries a miniature book. Included with the doll is a hand-script memorandum detailing the ceremony in which Sister Marie du Saint Coeur was ordained a nun; the doll was assumedly presented as a memorial of that ceremony. Incised _F.4 G._ on shoulder plate, with body stamped "Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris". Circa 1870. An extraordinary well detailed and preserved presentation.
