Description
22" (56 cm). Hand pressed porcelain shoulder head
doll with oval-shaped face on very elongated
throat and sloping shoulders, black sculpted hair
drawn away from face and behind the well-detailed
sculpted ears with detail of hair stippling
around the forehead edges. The hair has a frame
of pouf curls at the crown, seven ringlet curls
at the back arranged atop a bun, and two long
ringlet curls cascading onto front and back of
shoulder plate. The doll_s facial features are
very expressive with rich blue painted eyes, red
and black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows,
accented nostrils and closed mouth with center
accent line. Her handmade muslin body is shaped
with interesting proportions and she wears an
early gown of mauve-patterned muslin,
undergarments, and leather boots. The doll and
undergarments are ink-lettered _C.I. Mott, 1873_
indicating the doll_s provenance. Circa 1870.
From the Collection of Mildred Seeley.
