Description
18" (46 cm). Having bisque swivel head with rounded facial modeling on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, dark cobalt blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner encircles the eye socket, painted lashes, arched feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with outlined lips, defined chin, blushed cheeks, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig in very elaborate original coiffure over cork pate. The poupee has distinctive fashion body with shapely and very firmly stuffed torso, kid-over-wooden legs with side-hip-jointing and dowel-jointing at knees, kid-over-wooden upper arms to below the dowel- jointed elbows, bisque forearms with exquisitely sculpted fingers and defined nails. The poupee wears an early green silk and black velvet costume, undergarments, and green leather shoes. Circa 1869, the body style with distinctive side- hip jointing was deposed by Leverd & Cie in 1869, although the brevete called for the use of reinforced gutta percha in its production rather than wood. A rare deposed and luxury body model with superb original portrait like bisque head and fine original coiffure with original decorations. Existing examples of the Leverd body are nearly impossible to find.
