Description
18" (46 cm). Having a pale pressed bisque
shoulder head with very plump oval-shaped face,
full cheeks and blushed double chin, tiny cobalt
blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner encircling
the eye sockets, painted lashes, arched feathered
brows, rounded nose tip with accented nostrils,
closed mouth with accented lips, defined
philtrum, sculpted unpierced ears with blushing
and blonde mohair wig over cork pate. There is a
character-like eloquence to the gentle expression
of the face. The poupee has French kid fashion
body with shapely torso, gusset jointing at hips,
shapely legs, kid upper arms, tinted porcelain
arms from above the elbows with defined and
nicely painted fingers, nails and knuckles. The
poupee wears antique folklore style costume
comprising featherstitched blouse, woolen striped
skirt, undergarments, leather shoes, coiffe, and
carries handmade early basket. Marked _Brevete
D.D. SGDG_ in stamp on torso. Circa 1861, Duval-
Denis, which succeeded the Blampoix firm for only
two years, 1861_1862; in 1863 the firm was
curiously re-sold to Blampoix. Since no brevetes
were registered to Duval-Denis it is likely that
the torso stamp refers to the earlier Blampoix
patents whose rights were owned by Duval-Denis
during their two years of ownership.
