Description
Of unusual silk fabric, having alternate bands of
cream and lavender silk the gown features a low-
rounded neckline and cap sleeves, fitted bodice
with hidden waistband, A-shaped seven-panel full-
length skirt. The gown is trimmed with double-
tiered lavender silk scalloped-edge ruffles at
yoke, sleeves and forming arched bands down the
front sides and around the back bottom hem, a
matching sash with long scalloped lappets at the
back, silk covered buttons. The bodice and hem
are lined. The fabrics and construction details
indicate couturier-made. Circa 1865.
