29"W. 15"H. A wooden box with paper cover opens to reveal five-sided walls that unfold and assemble within the box base to create a French salon of the 1880 era. The room has marbled blue paper walls with gilt edging, patterned paper "carpet", two windows with glass and elaborate blue silk draperies with valances and fringe trim, lace inner curtains, wooden fireplace with blue silk mantel, and an assortment of furnishings and accessories: gilt ormolu mirror, gilt ormolu mantel clock with figural design, wooden bed with canopy fitted with blue silk, matching pedestal table and night table, writing desk with bronze legs and painted decorations, two upholstered chairs with tufting, little fur-covered dog, wash bowl and pitcher set, and porcelain tea service. Excellent condition. French, circa 1880, an unusually large room with wonderful furnishings and details, original papers and upholstery throughout.
