Description
16" (40 cm). Bisque socket head with slender facial modeling, brown glass inset eyes, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, open mouth, outlined lips, four tiny teeth, brunette mohair wig, paper mache body form as candy container with attached composition legs having sculpted high heels and net stockings, with bisque forearms. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Germany S&H 1158 2. Comments: The French fascination with the Edmund Rostand play "Chanticleer" inspired objects such as this feathered-bird lady that depicted various figures in the play. Circa 1900. Value Points: extremely rare candy container doll with historical significant, in superbly preserved original feather and silk costume.
