Description
28" overall. 8"H. Two carved wooden goats with
hide cover, glass eyes, horns, ears, painted
detail of mouth, jointed legs are harnessed to an
ornate metal framed wicker carriage with scroll
shaped brackets; the frame is painted original
black color with red and gold stenciled trim, and
the ornately woven carriage is upholstered in
original peach silk with rich tufting and pleats.
There is a driverís seat at the front, two
detachable carriage lamps, steps, and double-
sided facing seats in the carriage. When wound,
the goats, which are decorated with generous
flounces of silk ribbons, move their legs quickly
to and fro, propelling the carriage forward. The
carriage is wound from a small box at the
underside in the manner of Vichy. Circa 1860.
Excellent condition of the very beautiful early
toy, and perfectly scaled for display with small
dolls.
