Description
16" (40 cm). Carved wooden head with sculpted
hair in very elaborate carved curls and braids,
inset enamel eyes, painted features, swivel neck,
wooden shoulderplate, arms and lower legs,
jointing at shoulders and elbows, separately
sculpted fingers, painted white stockings and red
shoes, old cloth hand-stitched body. Condition:
originality of paint on face is uncertain.
Comments: late 18th century. Value Points:
superbly rendered details of hair and posture,
the doll wears early gold brocade gown with
metallic detail suggesting bees and butterflies.
