Description
23" (58 cm). Standing upon a velvet covered
wooden base is a bisque headed lady with blue
glass eyes encircled by very dramatic dark
eyeshadow and thickly painted brows, accent dots
at inner and outer eye corners, nostrils, open
mouth, row of teeth, brunette mohair wig. The
lady has a carton torso and legs, waist hinging,
wire upper arms and legs, bisque forearms; she

in her arms. When wound, music plays and she
sinuously leans at the waist and then the hips
from side to side, turning her head and strumming
the guitar in a realistic manner. Condition:
generally excellent, music and mechanism function
well. Marks: Germany S&H Simon & Halbig (head).
Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1900. Value
Points: splendid large automaton in excellent
state of preservation, with uniquely painted
facial decorations, original silk costume and cap
decorated with gold coins and beads, wonderful
movement and music.
