23" (58 cm). Bisque socket head, blue glass paperwegight eyes, mohair lashes, painted lower lashes, incised eyeliner, brushstroked brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, open mouth, shaded lips, row of tiny teeth, waist- length blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully jointed body with kid-over-metal hinge at thighs. When keywound, the bebe lifts its legs alternately as though in walking motion. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well. Marks: A 15 Paris (head) Au Nain Bleu (paper label on torso). Comments: Jules Steiner, circa 1890, the doll was patented as Bebe Marcheur or Bebe Petit Pas, and sold by the famous Parisian doll shop Au Nain Bleu. Value Points: rare doll with beautiful facial modeling and painting, original body and body finish, original Paris boutique label, original chemise.
