Description
23" (58 cm). Bisque socket head, blue glass
paperwegight eyes, mohair lashes, painted lower
lashes, incised eyeliner, brushstroked brows,
accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, open
mouth, shaded lips, row of tiny teeth, waist-
length blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French
composition and wooden fully jointed body with
kid-over-metal hinge at thighs. When keywound,
the bebe lifts its legs alternately as though in
walking motion. Condition: generally excellent,
mechanism functions well. Marks: A 15 Paris
(head) Au Nain Bleu (paper label on torso).
Comments: Jules Steiner, circa 1890, the doll was
patented as Bebe Marcheur or Bebe Petit Pas, and
sold by the famous Parisian doll shop Au Nain
Bleu. Value Points: rare doll with beautiful
facial modeling and painting, original body and
body finish, original Paris boutique label,
original chemise.
