Description
17" x 12". Preserved in its original cardboard
box on a framed wooden platform is a French
schoolroom with teacher's podiumn and desk,
blackboards, and four double desks and
benches each with paper instructional
booklets. Folding walls are designed to fit into
wooden floor slats, and reveal maps of France
and Asia, arithmetic tables, and a wall clock
signed Paris. Attending the school is a 5" all
bisque doll as teacher with swivel head, glass
eyes, peg-jointed bisque arms and legs,
blonde mohair wig, and silk dress, along with
eight students, each with bisque swivel head,
painted features, blonde mohair wig,
peg-jointed limbs, original cotton dresses with
lace collars. Condition: generally excellent,
unplayed with. Comments: French, circa 1890,
an accompanying letter, dated 1934,
bequeaths the toy to "Ma cher Suzanne"
describing the schoolroom as a "toy from my
long-ago childhood". Value Points: fine
original unplayed with condition.
