Description
14" (35 cm). Paper mache shoulderhead with
unusually shaped face. defined double chin,
sculpted and painted hair with overall curls and
swirling tendrils of hair onto the face, painted
blue eyes with white eyedots and heavily modelled
eyelids, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils,
closed mouth, hand-stitched early muslin body,
pale blue leather arms with stitched separated
fingers. Condition: generally excellent, few
craze lines on shoulderplate. Comments: circa
1840. Value Points: wonderfully preserved early
character-faced paper mache with superbly
detailed hair and artfully painted features,
early costume.
