Description
15" (39 cm). Bisque socket head with very
high pate cut at top of head, rounded facial
modeling, painted features, blue shaded
eyes, black upper glancing pupils, black and
incised upper eyeliner, brown single stroke
brows, rounded nose tip with accented
nostrils, closed mouth with accent line
between the lips, deeply impressed cheek
dimples, blonde mohair wig, composition and
wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally
excellent. Marks: C.P. 215 39. Comments:
Catterfelder Puppenfabrick, circa 1910 from
that firm's series of art reform dolls which they
promoted as having "left the path of tradition
by expressing completely new ideas",
referring to their character faces; nevertheless
the rarity of the C.P. dolls indicates that very
few were actually made. Value Points:
wonderfully expressive dimpled face child with
superb bisque, original body and elaborate
folklore costume including silk cap, padded
skirt, flannel petticoat, embroidered blouse,
apron, and long blonde mohair braids.
