18" (46 cm). All cloth doll with pressed and oil
painted facial features and hair, shaded
brown hair with centerpart and two ringlet
curls arranged in front of each stitch-sculpted
ear, stippled curls around the back of head,
painted brown eyes with shaded detail, tiny
white eyedots, and large black pupils, outlined
eyes, feathered brows, accented nostrils,
closed mouth with accented lips,
stitch-jointing at hips, knees and shoulders,
stitched fingers, separately stitched thumbs,
painted high ankle boots with red edging and
defined lacing, antique pantalets, chemise
and plaid dress that may be original.
Condition: generally excellent, some
characteristic rubs. Comments: Izannah
Walker, circa 1873. Value Points: very rare
American doll by known artist has compelling
folk portraiture expression, original artful
painting, painted shoes, ringlet curls.
