16" (41 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead, bald pate, sculpted black hair at sides of head and nape, sculpted ears, incised character lines, enamel eyes, thick brows, mouth modeled closed with row of painted teeth, tinted beard stubble, modeled wart, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted black shoes, wearing original villager costume comprising lined tweed vest, silver buttons, homespun shirt, patterned pants, leggings, sash. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, fine artistry of sculpting and painting is wonderfully executed in this example.
