Description
20" (51 cm). A bisque-headed doll with large
blue glass paperweight inset eyes, painted
lashes, brushstroked brows, accented
nostrils, closed mouth with shaded lips,
pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork
pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms,
bisque forearms, is standing upon a velvet
covered wooden base that contains a
clockwork mechanism. She holds a
floral-painted wooden tea service in her arms,
and when mechanism is wound, music plays,
the girls turns her head from side to side as
though offering tea, bows her head, extends
the tray and then pours the tea. Condition:
generally excellent, mechanism functions
well. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG
4 (doll) Le Cloches de Gruevilles (music label
on base). Comments: Leopold Lambert, the
automaton appeared in their late 19th century
catalog as "Bebe Russe". Value Points: in
beautiful perfectly preserved condition, the doll
wears her original silk costume with Russian
headdress and decorative necklace.
