18" (46 cm). Solid domed bisque
shoulderhead with rounded childlike
modeling, almond shaped cobalt blue glass
enamel inset eyes, painted lashes,
brushstroked brows, rose blushed
eyeshadow, accented eye corners, shaded
nostrils, closed mouth with richly outlined lips,
blonde mohair wig, twill midriff, upper arms
and legs, bisque lower torso, hips, forearms
and hands, lower legs and bare feet, antique
baby costume with cape and jacket. Condition:
generally excellent, baby fingers broken at top
knuckles. Comments: Jules Nicolas Steiner,
circa 1870, the doll was inspired by the
Japanese Ichimatsu doll introduced at the
London Exposition of 1851. Value Points: rare
model with distinctive and original
well-preserved body, beautiful facial painting.
