Description
18" (46 cm). Bisque socket head, brown glass
paperweight inset eyes with spiral threading,
painted lashes, brushstroked and
multi-feathered brows, accented eye corners,
shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined
space between the shaded and outlined lips,
pierced ears, auburn mohair wig over cork
pate, French composition and wooden fully
jointed body. Condition: generally excellent.
Marks: Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG (incised
markings). Comments: Emile Jumeau, the
model with unusual cut-out at back of head
was designed for use with sleeping eye
mechanism patented by Fouville & Douville in
1891 (see The Jumeau Book, page 258); the
sleeping eyes were, however, never placed in
this doll, as it has its original paperweight
eyes. Value Points: rare markings on the
beautiful bebe, original body and body finish,
choice bisque, antique maroon woolen dress
and cap, Jumeau shoes signed Paris Bebe.
