Description
14" (36 cm). Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, almond shaped pale blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner encircles the eyecut, painted lashes, arched feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented lips emphasizing the slight smiling expression, pierced ears, brunette human hair over cork pate, French kid fashion body with shapely torso, square-cut collarette, gusset jointed hips, bisque forearms and hands with separately sculpted fingers. Condition: generally excellent, body especially sturdy. Marks: D (head and shoulderplate). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, circa 1873. Value Points: in pristine unplayed with condition, with choice bisque, the poupee owns four couturier quality gowns of the 1870 era. Included is a letter detailing the doll's history: "My name is Clara Viola and I was born in 1877. I belong to Miss Geraldine Yerrington of Ross, California. I am no flapper, and have never show[n] my legs. It is very bad taste. My clothes were made from my great aunt's trousseau". The doll is being sold by the original family.
