Description
15" (36 cm). Boy and girl, each having mask- pressed cloth face with painted facial features, large googly eyes painted as though glancing shyly at each other, painted upper lashes, blush on nose tip and cheeks, closed mouth, fine peach cotton body with one piece torso and legs, stitch- jointed shoulders, mitten hands. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: "Susie-Q by Madame Alexander (red purse-shaped hang tag on girl). "Bobby-Q by Madame Alexander" (cloth tag on boy). Comments: Alexander, circa 1940. Value Points: the wonderfully imaginative pair are perfectly preserved in original plaid cotton and felt costumes, black shoes with white spats, straw bowlers, the girl with red yarn braids, the boy with curly yarn hair.
