Description
30"W. x 36"H. x 14"D(excluding front platform).
A wooden two story house is constructed to
open to four individual rooms by hidden
hinged doors. The architectural style features
modified Mansard roof with gilt metallic railing
framing the top, set-back right front side,
center front door with elaborate carving below
a matching second floor front door that opens
onto a small porch. There are wide arched
windows on the first floor, and large
rectangular windows on the second. A large
attic is accessed by lifting off the flat roof,
and
the first and second floors are "stackable", too.
The interior rooms retain original wall and
floor papers, and curtains, and the house is
generously furnished with antique furniture
and decorations of the era, including kitchen
set with elaborate cupboard, unusual
wall-hanging tin sink, faience stove with
embossed tin door, and four small bisque
dolls. The exterior lithographed paper
shingles are intact, the remaining exterior has
original (faded) paint. Attributed to Christian
Hacker, Germany, circa 1892, a similar house
appears on page 18 "Little Houses by the
Side of the Road".
