Description
15" x 13". (38 x 33 cm). A wooden framed shadow
box with window front and mirrored three-sided
back has painted paper theatre curtains and cord
edging that frames an interior scene of two
bisque dolls. They are posed on metal rods with
legs slightly raised above the floor so, when
wound, they twirl around gaily, waving
tambourines; the reflected mirror image creates
an illusion of six dolls dancing. The dolls have
bisque shoulderheads with blonde painted hair and
facial features, silk costumes. Excellent
condition, mechanism and music function well.
Circa 1875. Maker unknown
