French Bisque 'Playing School' from Au Bon Marche

Description
9" (23 cm) doll. 11" (28 cm) x 10" (25 cm). A bisque doll with blue glass sleep eyes, open mouth, teeth, brunette mohair wig, composition body jointed at shoulders and hips, painted stockings and shoes, wears original navy blue schooldress, blue apron with wide pocket having decoration of little boy painting, is arranged within a wooden box covered with marbleized paper and lithograph on the lid depicting three school girls and label from Au Bon Marche. The box contents also includes a number of schoolroom accessories including maple, notebooks, awards, schoolbag, rules, pencils, and such. The box is preserved in unplayed with condition with generous accessories and wonderful original costume on doll. It was sold by the Paris department store Au Bon Marche, circa 1900, and offered in their holiday Etrennes catalog.
