Description
17" overall (43 cm). Standing upon a patterned
velvet-covered wooden base which contains
clockwork and musical mechanisms, is a bisque
headed doll representing Polichinelle. The doll
has large amber brown glass paperweight inset
eyes with spiral threading, lushly painted
lashes, brushstroked and feathered brows,
accented nostrils, closed mouth with accented
lips, mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and
legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. When
wound, music plays, Polichinelle clangs the
cymbals and nods his head from side to side.
CONDITION: Generally excellent, mechanism and
music function well. MARKS: Depose Tete Jumeau

tune on paper label on bottom of base). COMMENTS:
Leopold Lambert, circa 1890. VALUE POINTS: An
especially beautiful bisque face highlights the
amusing mechanical doll that wears all original
and well-preserved silk Polichinelle costume with
red silk ribbons, metallic braid, brass bells,
matching cap; the automaton is preserved in its
original wooden box labelled "Polichinelle
Cymbale 7562" on the end.
