Description

The early closed mouth doll, made to capture the French market and resembling early Jumeau bebes, has pale bisque socket head, deep blue glass enamel inset eyes, painted curly lashes, brush stroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth with accent line between the lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over lambs wool cap, original Sonneberg composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists, cupped hands, defined navel. The doll wears her original aqua silk dress with lace and ivory silk trim, chemise, petticoat, pantalets, white kid shoes, mohair plush bonnet with decorative pearls and twill ribbon. Signed "2". Mystery maker, circa 1885. 10" (25 cm).
